After four days of fighting through a competitive group stage, four teams emerged to battle it out for a chance to play in the Brawl Cup.
Our first match of the day featured SA West favorites Zurita Gang against the lesser known Ice Frio Hielo. Zurita Gang started off strong with a smart draft in Open Business, only allowing Ice Frio Hielo to capture 30 percent across both games. Undermine was more of a back and forth, with games going to 14 gems, but Zurita Gang was able to close out the third game, bringing them two sets up. Ice Frio Hielo was not going down without a fight, taking Super Beach in a convincing fashion with great team plays. In Shooting Star, Ice Frio Hielo decided to pick two of the newest buffie brawlers, Bibi and Leon. Unfortunately, their unorthodox picks did not work out, as Jxcr was able to shut down all aggression with Bea, giving Zurita Gang the win.
Unfortunately, one of the players on Dame Paleta F/A was not able to play, and a replacement was not able to be found in time. Therefore, Un Sueño Incompleto took the forfeit victory and moved on to face Zurita Gang in the finals.
Meanwhile, in the lower bracket, Ice Frio Hielo got a forfeit victory against Dame Paleta F/A, awaiting the loser of Zurita Gang and Un Sueño Incompleto.
Opening up the series in Super Beach, Zurita Gang and Un Sueño Incompleto each had their own moments where they shone. A strong offensive push from Zurita Gang got them the first goal, but Un Sueño Incompleto, staying calm, was able to even up the game with good teamwork. The set went to three games, with the first one ending in a draw, but Zurita Gang was eventually able to break through Un Sueño Incompleto’s defenses to take set one. In Hideout, Zurita Gang opted for a more aggressive composition, while Un Sueño Incompleto picked a more passive one. Un Sueño Incompleto was able to consistently defend against Zurita Gang’s pushes, allowing them to take set two. In set three, Bridge Too Far, we saw Zurita Gang pick up the RT as a defensive brawler. Unfortunately for them, the DPS of Un Sueño Incompleto was too much for even RT to defend, and the attackers took the 2-1 lead. Set four was not your typical Belle’s Rock game, as Un Sueño Incompleto picked up two healers and a Frank to try to run down Zurita Gang. However, Zurita Gang was able to shut down Frank with a smart Lou pick, dragging the series to set five. The final set, Open Business, was a back and forth between the two teams, but the underdogs, Un Sueño Incompleto, were able to hold on and take the victory over Zurita Gang.
Dame Paleta F/A started off their set against Zurita Gang with a bang, stealing game one away from Zurita Gang in the final seconds. Unfortunately, that was the most we saw from them, as Zurita Gang bounced back and took the next two games in pretty convincing fashion. Dame Paleta F/A started off strong in game one of Safe Zone, but a slight blunder from Chuck left Zurita Gang’s safe at one percent. Zurita Gang, not wanting to waste that opportunity, finished Dame Patela F/A’s safe before Chuck was able to return. Game two was more or less the same, with Zurita Gang winning the set, giving them a 2-0 advantage. In Goldarm Gulch, the final set was all Zurita Gang, as they even pulled off a 2v3 to win the series and put them back into the finals against Un Sueño Incompleto.
This rematch of the semi-finals, Zurita Gang v Un Sueño Incompleto, was sure to be a good one. Three extremely close games in Deathcap Trap ended in Un Sueño Incompleto’s favor, with Todd clutching up on Moe and breaking up the formation of Zurita Gang. Not breaking their momentum, Un Sueño Incompleto swiftly took Set Two, taking advantage of the bushes in Pinhole Punt and sneaking up on Zurita Gang when they least expected it. On the brink of defeat, Zurita Gang put a stop to all that momentum in Set Three, showcasing masterful mechanics in Shooting Star. Set Four was once again back and forth, with both teams opting to base race games one and two. Game three was a bit more of a traditional Hot Potato match, with both teams exchanging blows and each other’s safe. However, Zurita Gang ended up taking the win, once again taking the series to a fifth set. In Set Five, Zurita Gang picked two aggressive brawlers, Leon and Mortis. However, Un Sueño Incompleto had something in their pocket: Cordelius. The Cordelius was able to shut down any aggressive plans Zurita Gang had, and allowed Un Sueño Incompleto to take the set, win the series, but more importantly, represent SA West at the Brawl Cup.
Comprised of Todd, XNzKai, and AnYus, this scrappy roster of youngsters has proven their talent in their own region, but will have to contend with the best from around to globe. Shockingly, Kai has NEVER played in a BSC event until RTBC SA West, and AnYus just a single Monthly Qualifier all time. Todd, who won a Monthly Final with Shield Gang to end the year in 2023, has been notably absent from the spotlight in 2024 and 2025 despite disjointed splits with Level Esports. With the opportunity to prove his worth at his first international event, we will see if Un Sueño Incompleto can replicate the magic of RNTX and prove that subregions have something to say on under the brightest of lights. Tune in for Brawl Cup Berlin, May 15th-17th.
